Lynn Ethyl Matthews, age 65, of New Castle, DE passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014.

Mrs. Matthews was born in Wilmington, Delaware on April 16, 1948, and was the daughter of Clifton West and Elizabeth Jean Thomas West. She was a talented homemaker and devoted mother.

An avid gardener, Mrs. Matthews enjoyed tending to her yard. She liked sewing and relaxing outdoors in her leisure time. Her happiest moments were spent in the company of her beloved family and time spent playing with her grandson. She enjoyed baking, especially during the holidays.

In addition to her father, Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Matthews who passed away in 2006 and a brother, Wayne West. She is survived by her mother, Jean; children, Pam Matthews of Newark, Robyn Matthews of New Castle and Dan Matthews of Bear; grandson, Nick McIntosh; brothers, Doug West and Ron West (Bea); niece, Jennifer West; and nephew, Jeff West.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday morning, March 18, 2014, at The Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where friends and family may visit from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Ste. 101, Newark, DE 19713 or the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

  • Dear Lynn,The last time I saw you was here in Bethany Beach when you came to visit with Gail. I remember playing tennis with you at BHS and going to your house after school to your frilly girls bedroom where you immediately put Elvis on the record player………..it was also so obvious that your children worshipped you and you them.
