M Fay Runkle
Mrs. M. Fay Runkle, age 81, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2011.
Fay was born in Shamokin, PA, on January 16, 1930, daughter of the late Clarence B. Fry and Cecilia D. Forbes. In earlier years she was employed as a secretary with the former Chloramone Company in Delaware City. She would go on to accept a position in professional retail sales with the former Bambergers Department Store, which later merged with Macys.
A talented homemaker and an accomplished cook, Fay devoted her life to caring for her family and was at her happiest when spending time with her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a gifted seamstress and crafter as well and was very pleased to have designed her daughters prom dresses and wedding gowns. She also enjoyed singing, both in church and around her home. Active in her community, Fay was a longtime member of the Brookside Activity Council (BAC).
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard A. Runkle, Sr.; children, Richard Runkle, Jr. (Carol) of Newark, David Runkle (Barbara) of Landenburg, PA, Elaine Godwin (Kenny) of Newark, and Nancy Gallucci of Chesapeake City, MD; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Gallucci.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:30 pm on Friday, July 15, 2011, at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of Fay to Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713.
