Mabel L. Forman
Mrs. Mabel L. Forman, age 88, of St. Georges, DE, died on Sunday, January 9, 2011.
A native Delawarean, Mrs. Forman was born in Dover on May 20, 1922, daughter of the late James Dempsey and Blanche McClaine Dempsey. She was employed as a clerk with the US Postal Service, working for much of her career at the St. Georges Post Office and later for the Delaware City and Port Penn branches prior to her retirement.
Active in her community, Mrs. Forman was a longtime member of the St. Georges Historical Society and a member of the former St. Georges Presbyterian Church until its closure. Currently, she was a member of the Chesapeake City Presbyterian Church. In her leisure hours, she greatly enjoyed knitting and reading.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Forman, in 1993, her son, William H. Billy Forman IV, and a brother, William Dempsey. She is survived by her daughters, Karen S. McConnell (William) of Newark, and Becky R. Snyder (Robert) of New Castle; brother, James Dempsey (Becky) of Lewes; sisters, Frances Remley of Dover, and Mary Jane Bell (Frederick) of Dover; grandchildren, Shawn D. McConnell (Lynn) of Springfield, PA, Erin L. Gorman of Baltimore, MD, and Cara A. Gorman of Wilmington; and great grandchildren, Norah Mabel McConnell and Aidan J. Peck.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 14th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 214 Clinton Street, Delaware City, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Georges Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Forman may be made to the St. Georges Historical Society, P.O. Box 267, St. Georges, DE 19733.
