Mrs. Madeline Dowell, age 81, of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012.
Born in Winston-Salem, NC, on June 15, 1930, Mrs. Dowell was the daughter of the late Eddie Dezern and Daisy Fowler Dezern. She made her career with the A & P Grocery Store (now Superfresh), where she retired.
Mrs. Dowell was a devout Christian throughout her life and was a longtime, active member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Samuel L. Dowell; son, Cecil D. Dowell (Elizabeth) of Middletown; brothers, Windel Dezern (Irene) of Salisbury, NC, and Bobby Dezern of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters, Ola Mason and Opal Brown, both of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Andrew Dowell (Marcia) of Magnolia, Brandon Dowell (Kim) of Townsend, and Denise Dowell of Middletown; and great grandchildren, Olivia, Carter, and Cooper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, James Dezern, Raymond Dezern, and Louise Hill.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 13, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
