Marcelle Maria (Baker) Beaston - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Marcelle Maria (Baker) Beaston

Born February 26, 1953

Marcelle M. Beaston, age 62, of Delaware City, DE, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and daughter went home to our Lord and Savior on April 10, 2015.

She was born February 26, 1953 to Sgt. Clarence G. and Audrey E. Baker who have preceded her in going home. She graduated from Gunning Bedford HS in June 1971 and married Steven D. Beaston on June 26th of that year; whereupon the couple began a wonderful and fulfilling life lasting until her passing. While Steve was on active duty in the US Coast Guard they lived for a short period in North Carolina. Then after being assigned to Ocean City, MD, the couple took up residence in south eastern Sussex County where they engaged in the boat rental and marina business for many years. Miqui also worked extensively in retail during those years. Returning to the Delaware City-St. Georges area in 1999, she continued to work in retail; most recently with Goodwill lndustries as an assistant manager which she thoroughly enjoyed and where she made many friends.

A lifelong Republican, she was very active in the party, serving as a state committee member and as chair successively of the 9th and 15th Representative districts and in the Colonial Region. She was named Republican of the Month twice over the years in recognition of her efforts on behalf of the party. She was also active in local Delaware City Government, serving on both the Historic Preservation Commission and town election board. A member of St. Paul’s R.C. Church, she was a lector and choir member. She was a person of strong faith and read her personal Bible frequently.

An avid reader, she also enjoyed books on faith, history, personal development, and novels. Miqui enjoyed traveling, making many trips to the upper peninsula of Michigan, Maine, and Virginia, as well as camping in Pennsylvania and Delaware. She enjoyed redecorating her home, sailing, gardening, music, classic movies, crafting, sewing, crocheting and needle point and was a phenomenal cook.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Steve; daughter, Gabrielle (Stephen) Perkins; son, Geoffrey (Jacqulyn) Beaston; 6 grandchildren, Timothy and Jessica Beaston, and Matthew, Eleanor, Caroline and Thomas Perkins, all of whom were and are a great joy to her; sisters, Margaret and Adrienne; brother, Jess (Sue); 2 brothers-in-law, Bill (Bonnie) and Tom; sister-in-law, Claudia Jones (Rick); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Miqui fought cancer valiantly for over five years but ultimately the cancer prevailed. The family urges all who read this to continue the fight by supporting research and getting regular checkups and making sure your loved ones do as well.

A viewing will be held from 5 pm until 8 pm on Friday evening, April 17, 2015 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 214 Clinton Street, Delaware City. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Saturday morning, April 18, 2015 at St. Paul’s R.C. Church, 209 Washington Street, Delaware City. Interment will be held at 10 am on Monday morning, April 20, 2015 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

  • Steve, Gabrielle, Geoffrey, Margaret, Adrienne, Jess and Extended Family Loved Ones,

I send my heartfelt condolences to all of you for your loss of a true and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. My feelings of deepest regret are certainly overshadowed by God’s touch to bring Miqui to her rightful place of her blessed home in heaven. The passing of one of Delaware City’s distinguished citizens is always profound because it serves to remind us that our journey in life should be shared with others as Miqui has done. A major part of her life was serving the public as she did with Delaware City serving on both the Historic Preservation Commission and town election board. It is important to know to the fullest extent the benefits which DE City and the entire community have derived from the work of her public spirit, and because of the warm personal feeling inspired in our hearts by her kindly, unselfish life.

I ask that our Heavenly Father console each of you and accept with open arms Marcelle M. Beaston into her rightful place in heaven. Mayor Stan, DE City, DE
