Margaret Cox, age 85, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 4, 2017.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 3, 1932, Margaret was the daughter of the late Robert Morris and Lee Ella (Bell) Reid. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Bob Jones University, Margaret married the love of her life Lt. Bill Cox. Together they raised three children. Bill’s lifelong career with DuPont resulted in their transfer to Delaware where Margaret enjoyed her occupation as Executive Secretary. She retired from the Office of Government and Public Relations at the University of Delaware after 15 years of dedicated service.

A devoted Christian, Margaret was always an active member of the church. She worshiped at the Newark United Methodist Church for over 40 years where she participated in the choir, bell choir, Bible study, and Ladies Circle. Margaret spent much of her leisure time listening to music, playing the piano, and attending concerts and the theater. She also enjoyed traveling and dining out with her loving husband. Family was most important to her and she especially loved spending time with her five granddaughters.

In addition to her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Billy J. Cox, who passed away in June 2017 and sister, Louise Hooper. She is survived by her children, W. Reid Cox (Nancy) of Leesburg, VA, Kathryn C. Madey of Newtown Square, PA, and Susan C. Carr (Thomas) of Wilmington; sister, Helen Justice of Mt. Dora, FL; grandchildren, Laura Cox, Kara and Julia Madey, and Madelyn and Claudia Carr; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am until 11:30 am on Monday morning, August 14, 2017 at the Newark United Methodist Church, 69 E. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711, where a funeral service will begin at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in Head of Christiana Cemetery, Nottingham Road, Newark, DE.
