Margaret E. Ferenz
Mrs. Margaret E. Ferenz, known fondly as Marge, age 82, of Newark, DE, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at her home in the care of her husband of 63 years, John.
Marge was born in Rutland, VT, on August 8, 1928, daughter of the late Ernest Fritz and Mildred Farmer Fritz, and younger sister of the late Shirley Jean Schoenig. The family later moved to North Bergen, NJ, where she met her husband John and graduated from high school. Married in 1947, they lived in Salisbury, MD before moving to Delaware in 1952. Marge worked for the Christina school district for 23 years, was a founding member of St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, and was active in local womens social groups.
A talented homemaker, loving wife, and dedicated parent, Marge delighted in spending time with and caring for her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. Always actively involved in her childrens lives, she was a scout den mother, classroom helper, and working member of many school PTAs and sports and band booster clubs. Marge was a wonderful cook and baker well known for her unique hand-made Santa Claus Christmas cookies. She prided herself in traditional family holiday meals, and her pies and recipes are cherished family memories. In earlier years, she particularly enjoyed taking camping trips in the familys travel trailer all over the eastern United States and Canada, and retirement featured winters in Sarasota, FL, summer vacations in Maine, and trips with her grandchildren.
Marge will be long remembered for her extraordinarily giving, compassionate nature. She was happiest when helping others; her lifetime of good works and cheerful enthusiasm were an inspiration to family and friends alike.
She is survived by her beloved husband, John H. Ferenz; sons, Richard John Ferenz (Susan) and Gary William Ferenz (Rhonda); and grandchildren, Gregory Ferenz (Jodi), Michael Ferenz, and Renee Robinson (Ryan).
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, February 7th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, February 8th, at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, 10 Old Newark Road, Newark, DE. Interment will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
