Margaret H. Myer, age 82, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2014.

Born in Pottsville, PA on January 25, 1932, Mrs. Myer was a daughter of the late Edward and Catherine Handges. In addition to raising her family, she made her career as a librarian for the Cecil County Public Library from 1975 until her retirement in 1998.

A devout Catholic, Mrs. Myer was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she enjoyed volunteering her time at the parish’s book sales. She adored vacationing at her home in Ocean City, NJ. In her leisure hours, Mrs. Myer liked reading, spending time with the many friends she made while working at the library and tending to her rose garden. She was happiest in the presence of her beloved family, whether preparing a delicious meal for them or just being in their company. A loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Mrs. Myer will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Myer, Sr. She is survived by her son, Joseph Myer and wife Ada of Newark; brother, Msgr. William Handges of Pottsville, PA; sister, Dorothy Balonis of Pottsville, PA; and grandson, Matthew Joseph Myer.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Thursday evening, August 28, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Friday morning, August 29, 2014, at the Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD, where a second visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am. Interment will be held at 10 am on Saturday, August 30, 2014 in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Mahanoy City, PA.

Flowers are appreciated, however in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Second Floor, Newark, DE 19711.
