Margaret M. Sumner, known affectionately as Mom Mom, age 82, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2015, surrounded by her family.

Born in Detroit, MI on October 28, 1932, Margaret was a daughter of the late James Landwermeyer and Louise (Roberts) Landwermeyer. She devoted her life to caring for her family and was a loving homemaker.

Outgoing and personable, Margaret enjoyed the company of others. She adored children and her gentle and loving nature led to her being the adopted grandmother to many of the neighborhood youngsters, whom she often invited for lunch. A loving mother and grandmother, Margaret’s family meant the world to her and she was happiest when in their company.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold L. Sumner, son Marty Sumner, sister, Eileen Antio, a grandson, Sean Sumner, and Chloe, her devoted chocolate cocker spaniel, who was her baby. Margaret is survived by her children, Ralph Sumner of Newark, Kay Massey of Newark, Jeff Sumner (Patricia) of Newark, Janet Long (Dennis) of Chesapeake City, MD and David Sumner (Lorie) of Newark; 12 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Friday evening, February 20, 2015 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Saturday morning, February 21, 2015, at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newark Senior Center, 200 Whitechapel Dr, Newark, DE 19713, Newark, DE 19713.

    Our lives have been all that much better for having had you in them. We will always love you and be greatful for your love and guidance. We will miss you but we know you are in good company. Your in the arms of the angels and forever in our hearts.

    When I look at your Mom I see my Mom too. They were 2 peas in a pod. Lord only knows what they are up to now, I’m sure they have everyone up there in stitches. But right now my tears are not happy tears. I will miss her so much.
