Marguerite M. McMahon
Mrs. Marguerite M. McMahon, aged 92, of New Castle, DE, died in her sleep on Monday, April 18, 2011, after a short stay at Christiana Hospital.
Marguerite was born in Bayonne, NJ, and moved to New Castle in 1956 when her husband John was transferred to Delaware by the Tidewater (now Getty) Oil Company.
After raising her three children and the death of her husband in 1972, Marguerite returned to the workforce as a secretary for the Colonial School District where she worked well into her seventies.
In addition to her husband, Marguerite was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy, sisters, Anne and Elizabeth, and brother, Richard. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Cheryl McMahon of Media, PA; son, John McMahon of Orlean, VA; son-in-law, Richard Benfield of Piermont, NY; granddaughter, Cara McMahon of Washington, D.C.; granddaughter, Nora McMahon of Columbia, SC; brother, Daniel Sullivan of New York City; sister, Teresa Dames of Cincinnati, OH; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive guests on Monday, April 25th, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Tuesday, April 26th, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 801 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will follow at Saint Gertrudes Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ.
