Maria A. DiMauro
Mrs. Maria A. DiMauro, age 92, formerly of Wilmington Manor in New Castle, DE, and Ocala, FL, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at her residence in Dover.
Mrs. DiMauro was born on September 9, 1918 in Wilmington, daughter of the late Joseph Cirino and Rose Perry Cirino. A talented and resourceful homemaker, she was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church, where she was active in the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, the choir, and the vestments ministry. In earlier years, she was a Lioness with the Lions Club and served as the clubs lay chaplain.
Throughout her life, Mrs. DiMauro had a deep appreciation for music, particularly piano and voice. She enjoyed singing, ballroom dancing, musical theater, Perry Como and Eddie Fisher. Her fondness for hosting festive family dinners was most memorable at her annual Thanksgiving feasts, which included all of her relatives and their families.
An avid traveler, she and her husband Sam enjoyed vacations across the country and overseas for many years. She also moved her school-aged family to the Jersey shore every summer to enjoy their summer cottage in Wildwood. Following their retirement, Mr. and Mrs. DiMauro moved to Florida where they made their home in Ocala for 17 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Sabatino A. Sam DiMauro, Sr., in 2006. She is survived by her children, The Rev. Joseph DiMauro, OSFS, of Wilmington; Rosemary Engle (Richard) of Dover; Beatrice Cheseroni (James) of Dagsboro; and Sabatino A. DiMauro, Jr. and Michael DiMauro, both of Wilmington; sister, Elvina Forrest of Lewes; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 am on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 8:30 am. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
