Born August 28, 1941

Mariaelena P. Watts, age 75, of New Castle, DE, left us on Monday, April 10, 2017, to join her sons and parents in eternal life.

A native Delawarean, Mariaelena was born in Wilmington on August 28, 1941. After raising her children and while continually caring for her family, she proudly graduated with her GED from the James H. Groves High School.

Maria was caregiver to all of her children, but especially to her son, Billy for 17 years, who served as Delaware’s poster child for muscular dystropy from 1967 until 1968. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 43 years, Lee and her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters and their families. Maria loved family and all were welcomed under her roof and at her table for fun, food and conversation.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Alice Pitts and her mother, Virginia Hands; and her sons, William Billy and James Jimmy Sinnott.

Maria is survived by her husband, Lee McCoy Watts; daughter, Terry Sinnott DiMenco (Nick); son, Michael Sinnott (Mimi); grandchildren, Jamie Sinnott, Vinnie and Nicole DiMenco and Michael, James, Tim and Camille Sinnott; 4 great grandchildren; and sisters, Connie McElwee, Virginia McPherson, Debbie Wertz, JoAnn Dyer and Judy Dale.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Monday morning, April 17, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Road, Bear, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 600 Reed Road, #104, Broomall, PA 19008 or to Seasons Hospice of Delaware, 220 Continental Drive, Ste. 101, Newark, DE 19713.

  • So sorry to hear of the loss of our dear friend, Marie. We are so sorry that we are out of town and won’t be able to attend her service. Lee, our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

  • Lee, Terry and Michael…you know I’m so sorry to hear of Marie’s passing. She’s still a young woman in my memory…and I remember Josephine, nine months pregnant, walking across the street to see the “new” baby when Michael was born. I will make every effort to get to service on Monday…peace and good memories be with you in this loss.
