Marilyn Curtin Knapp

Marilyn Curtin Knapp, age  93, of  Newark, Delaware passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 in the comfort of her own home following a long illness.

Born on September 17, 1922 in Troy, New York, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. Curtin and Mary E. (Cox) Curtin.

Marilyn was a 1940 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy, NY.  Continuing her education, she attended Mildred Elley Business College in Albany, NY, graduating in 1942.  She was a member of and served as an officer of the Beta Omega Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority.

During her working career, she worked for various banks, newspapers and other businesses in the Troy and Albany area.  Most notably, Marilyn worked for the New York State Health Department, followed by the Fredonia State Teacher’s College in Dunkirk, NY, both positions she enjoyed immensely.  Following the birth of her first child,  Marilyn lovingly transitioned into her new role as a full-time mother and homemaker.

Marilyn will always be remembered by those who were blessed to know her as a kind, loving and caring individual who possessed a wonderful sense of humor.  Her presense will be dearly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by six brothers, Edmund, Daniel Jr., Raymond, Willard, Howard and Alfred.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Arthur F. Knapp; daughter, Karen A. Cavall of Newark; two sons, David A. Knapp and his wife, Marlene of Richmond, VA and Jeffrey P. Knapp of Wilmington and a very special granddaughter, Angèle E. Knapp of Silver Spring, MD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church,  200 E Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.  Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE  19808.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 248 E. Chestnut Hill Road, Suite 4, Newark, DE 19713 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, 240 North James Street, Suite 100A, Newport, DE 19804.

Although I only met Mrs. Knapp once, I heard so much about her from her son, my friend Jeff. She will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Knapp family.
