Marion Joyce Penoza, age 90, passed away at her home in Hockessin, DE on November 9, 2014 surrounded by her family.

She was born Marion J. Smith in Detroit, MI on May 23, 1924. She married her high school sweetheart, Frank Penoza, on January 27, 1942 in Fort Worth, TX, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army.

Marion was a homemaker who raised 5 sons, and went on to assist Frank in running a small family business. She relocated with her growing family from Michigan to Wilmington, DE in 1955, when Frank took a job as a mechanical engineer with the DuPont Co. In 1981 Frank and Marion started their own business, Pen Associates, Inc., manufacturing and marketing specialty tools for cutting and machining Dupont’s Kevlar product. They operated the business for over 30 years, obtaining eight U.S. patents along the way. Marion worked in the business continuously from its inception in 1981 until October 2014.

Marion was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Frank. She is survived by her sister Betty Michel, age 94, of Clawson MI; 5 sons, Richard and Jacqueline of Loudon TN, Thomas and Cheryl of New Castle, DE, Gerald of Wilmington, DE, James of McComb, MS, and Larry of Bellevue, WA; 8 grand children; and 5 great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and all those who knew her.

At Marion’s request, a small service will be held for family members only.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

  • My friend Marion loves me a lot she was a very special and wonderful terrific friend I always go with her every Thursday to go to Jc.Penney Hai salon to get her done and we always go to the charcoal pit to have a small cheeseburger and always share sweet potato fries and we always get cookies in creme ice cream and we always sit and talk to each other and she always gives me a hug and I always gives her a hug too I always call her every night at 6 : 20 to say good night and I love her and I hope she will have a good night she always buy me lunch at the charcoal pit We have so many pictures of her and I together she had a big beautiful home and I always love her and I miss her a lot
