Martha E. Smith, age 96, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Monday, January 11, 2016.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 8, 1919, Martha was a daughter of the late Thomas F. and Evelyn (Davidson) Keyser. In addition to working outside the home, she devoted her life to raising and caring for her family.

Martha became a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Newark in 1966 where she enjoyed lunches and traveling with the church’s senior group. In her leisure time, she liked reading and watching movies on the Hallmark Channel. Martha was an exceptional baker and everyone loved her treats and delicious iced tea. Martha was happiest in the company of her beloved family and will be very dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chauncey C. Chan Smith; sister, Esther Keyser Scott; and brother, Thomas Keyser. Martha is survived by her sons, David C. Smith of Newark, DE and William T. Smith of Perryville, MD; grandchildren, Jessica L. Smith, Jenna M. Smith, Ashlea N. Smith and Michael Javorsky; great grandchildren, Zebley A Foster, Tristan C. Foster and Chloe P. Foster; and many other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday afternoon, January 15, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 Noon and 1 pm. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 357 Paper Mill Rd, Newark, DE 19711.
