Marvin L. Shoemaker
Mr. Marvin L. Shoemaker, age 87, of Woodlyn, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland, PA.
Born in Chester, PA, on May 18, 1924, Mr. Shoemaker was the son of the late Wesley Shoemaker and Edna Cash Shoemaker. He proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during World War II and remained active in veterans organizations throughout his life, including the VFW of Ocean View, DE, where he was a Life Member, and the American Legion of Ridley Park, PA. In civilian life, he made his career as a professional electrician, retiring from the former Scott Paper (now Kimberly Clark).
In his leisure hours, Mr. Shoemaker greatly enjoyed collecting and creating artwork from seashells to give as thoughtful gifts to family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, as well as cheering each year for his favorite team, the Phillies.
Mr. Shoemaker was a devoted family man, a caring husband, and a proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be sadly missed by the many people who loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen T. Shoemaker, son, Donald James Shoemaker, and brother, Wesley Shoemaker, Jr. He is survived by his children, Anna Marie Bobon of New Castle, DE, and M. Lee Shoemaker (Mary) of Wilmington, DE; sisters, Edith Koeneman (Harry) of Glen Mills, PA, and Lida Urich of Chester, PA; five grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am. Interment will be in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Ridge Road, Linwood, PA.
