Mary Alice Finnegan, age 93, of Middletown, DE, formerly of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 10, 2018.

Born in Wilmington, DE on March 11, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Anthony B., Sr. and Alice Cordelia (Hall) Hayden. During her career she was a dedicated nurse for Wilmington General/Christiana Care, retiring after more than 40 years of service.

Her fondest memories were made with her family and gatherings. Mary Alice was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and listening to Daniel O’Donnell. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Hugh A. Finnegan and brother, Anthony B. Hayden, Jr. She is survived by her children, Pat A. Finnegan of Middletown, Mary Ellen Volpa (Joe) of Elkton, MD, Sharon M. Finnegan of Bear, Shelly Finnegan of Middletown, Hugh J. Finnegan (Barbara) of Newark and Sheila F. Wickert (Raymond) of Crownsville, MD; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 noon on Friday, December 21, 2018, at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 521 Harmony Street, New Castle, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary Alice’s memory to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
