Mary B. Smith
Mrs. Mary B. Smith, known fondly as Bunny, age 97, of Delaware City, DE, died on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at her home.
A native Delawarean, Mrs. Smith was born in Delaware City on October 26, 1913, daughter of the late Martin J. Brannon and Mary Virginia Wortz Brannon. She was a 1931 graduate of Ursuline Academy and, prior to her marriage, was employed as a secretary in the Delaware City public school system and later for the law firm of Allmond, Eastburn, & Benge in Wilmington.
Mrs. Smith was a gifted homemaker, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and a longtime member of St. Pauls parish in Delaware City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Smith, former mayor of Delaware City, in 1995, a son, Willard T. Smith, in 2001, and siblings, Kathryn T. Beatty, Helen E. Brannon, and James L. Brannon.
She is survived by her children, David A. Smith of Delaware City, Richard J. Smith (Anita) of Coatesville, PA, Claudia E. Goodwin of Parker, CO, and Mary June Peterson of Delaware City; 5 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at St. Pauls R.C. Church, 209 Washington Street, Delaware City, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will be in New St. Pauls Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Smith may be made to St. Pauls R.C. Church, P.O. Box 544, Delaware City, DE 19706.
