Mary Catherine Peterson
Mrs. Mary Catherine Peterson, age 86, of New Castle, DE, died on Wednesday, January 5, 2011.
Mrs. Peterson was born in Ashville, PA, on July 25, 1924, daughter of the late Raymond J. Hanlon and Agnes E. Lidwell Hanlon. She proudly served her country as a civilian naval yard inspector during World War II, and during the 1960s was employed in a dress shop at the Farmers Market in New Castle. A professional cosmetologist, she would later accept a position in the cosmetics department of Thrift Drug in Prices Corner, where she retired after a career spanning three decades.
Mrs. Peterson greatly enjoyed gardening each year around her home. She was an expert shopper and also delighted in traveling and taking road trips with her husband.
She was an avid Phillies fan. She is survived by her son, John C. Peterson; granddaughter, Lorri A. Peterson; brother, Roger Hanlon and wife, Diane; loving niece, Kathy Coan; and sisters-in-law, Nina Moody, Aileen Spence, and Faye Fritzche. She was preceded in death by her husband, F.C. Peterson; a son, David C. Peterson; siblings, Bridget Coan, Thomas Hanlon, Edward Hanlon, Ruth Rodda, Joseph Hanlon, Theresa Hanlon, William Hanlon, and Charles Hanlon; and sisters-in-law, Ann Lee and Beverly MacGuinness.
Visitation will be held from 9:45 am to 11:45 am on Monday, January 10th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:15 pm at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
