Mary George Dilks
Mary George Dilks, age 84, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2012, from respiratory failure.
Mary was born to the late Robert and Lauretta George was raised in Middletown, DE. She attended Middletown High School where she played basketball and field hockey. She later married John Dilks of Townsend, DE, and settled in Wilmington where she raised their family. She served as Worthy Matron of the Delaware Eastern Star and was a member of the Delaware Ki Wives. Mary regularly enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing cards, and could always be found having fun with her family and friends at their summer home in Veasey Cove, MD. She was a member of Emmanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, DE, and Jamestown Presbyterian Church of Jamestown, NC.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, John E. Dilks, Jr.; brothers, Robert, David, and James George; and sisters, Eleanor Watts and Constance Arvey. She is survived by her son, John (Jack), daughter, Cindy, and son, Barry and daughter-in-law, Arlene. She was the proud grandmother of Melanie Dilks and Alexandra Mallow. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas George; sisters-in-law, Joan Walsh, Florence Dilks, Doris George, Helen George, Margaret George, and Dorothy George; brothers-in-law, Robert Keeler, Ralph Watts, and John Arvey; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend to many and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, March 10th, at Emmanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 1006 Wilson Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803. Burial will be held privately.
