Mary H. Tweed, age 72, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 26, 2018.

Born in Hampton, TN on May 6, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Dud and Tilda (Johnson) Heaton.  Mary attended school in Hampton, TN and then spent her career with Christina School District as a custodian.  She retired in 2006 after 20 years of dedicated service.

Mary enjoyed cooking and building puzzles.  Her fondest memories were sitting out under her Maple tree with her friends.  She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Gene R. Tweed; son, Jerry A. Lowe, Jr. (Dawn); sisters, Oma Coleman (Doyle) and Georgie Moore (Leroy); and grandson, Chad Lowe.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will be held privately in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

  • Thank you for creating such a beautiful video tribute to Mary. I worked with her at Maclary Elementary School. She was a strong, hard worker who never complained. I used to run into her at Shop Rite early in the morning and we would ‘catch up’ on our life events. May you find peace in the days ahead.

  • Jerry, you are a great person, and I feel this is because of in part due to the type of mother you had. I am sincerely sorry for your loss, but I feel she is in a much better place. Hold your head high that you had such a great experience with a great lady. I never had the chance to meet her, but if she is anything like you, I definitely missed meeting someone special. You and your family are in my family’s prayers.
