Mary I. Beattie
Mrs. Mary I. Beattie, age 86, of Centreville, DE, passed on Wednesday, February 2, 2011.
Mrs. Beattie was born in Lenape, PA, on January 16, 1925, daughter of the late Ethel McConnell Taylor and Henry Taylor. She was a talented homemaker throughout her life and had also worked in food service with the Red Clay School District for 21 years before retiring in 1988.
Mrs. Beattie was a longtime member of St. Joseph on the Brandywine R.C. Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Francis Gerard Beattie, in 2004, and by her brothers, Emerson and Thomas Taylor. She is survived by her sons, David F. Beattie (MaryAnne) of Earleville, MD, and Gary M. Beattie, Sr. (Mary Anne) of Newark, DE; brother, Leroy W. Taylor of Wilmington, DE; sisters, Ann Williams of North East, MD, and Jane Beattie of Rehoboth Beach, DE; grandchildren, Betsey Coleman (Scott) of Bear, DE, Zachary Beattie of Newark, DE, and Gary Beattie, Jr. of Bear, DE; four stepgranddaughters; and three great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at St. Joseph on the Brandywine R.C. Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, DE, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
