Matthew Robert Streit - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Matthew Robert Streit

October 5, 1967 – November 14, 2014

Matthew Robert Streit passed from this earth on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the age of 47.

Born and raised on Long Island in New York, he moved with his family to Middletown, DE, in 2001 and most recently supervised building systems for the commercial real estate services firm, Jones Lang LaSalle.

He was the loving husband of Donna (nee Makofske) and the absolutely doting father of Taylor Nicole.

He was predeceased by his father Leonard Streit and is survived by his mother, Carolyn Meyer Streit, of Ft. Pierce, Fla. He also is survived by his brothers, Richard Streit and Christopher Streit, and his sister Kathy Byrne and her husband, Ronald Byrne. He was predeceased by his brother Kevin Streit.

His loss also is deeply mourned by his mother- and father-in-law, Diane and Christopher Scherf, his sister- and brother-in-law, Casey and Christopher Shaw, and his brother- and sister-in-law, Donald and Marie Makofske.

A lacrosse player in high school, he was a fan of football (the New York Giants) and NASCAR racing and an ardent fantasy football participant.

He will be recalled fondly by family and friends for his crooked grin, his gently biting sense of humor – aimed sometimes at others but often at himself, and his infectious enthusiasm for fun. Vacations were for big fun and he made sure they delivered.

Most of all, he will be remembered as a people-pleaser and care-giver, obsessing over taking care of his family and always eager to help friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Friday afternoon, November 21, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, Delaware, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 pm until 3 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, 1901 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.
