Mr. Michael C. King, age 65, of Claymont, DE, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Christiana Hospital.


Born in Los Angeles, CA, on February 7, 1946, Michael was the son of the late Maxine T. and Robert F. King. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force, before returning to civilian life and a career as a professional electrician. He worked for Delmarva Power for over 30 years, retiring as a supervisor, and would later accept a position with Area Electric in Elkton, MD. Recently, he returned to Delmarva Power as a contracting consultant. Known for his strong commitment to a job well done, Michael was one of those rare individuals who truly enjoyed working and creating a dynamic, supportive work environment for all his colleagues.


Michael was an avid sports fan and looked forward to playing golf and fishing in his leisure hours. An inspiring free spirit and friend of Bill W., he spent his life making good, lasting friends wherever he went. He delighted most of all in spending time with his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, niece and nephews, all of whom he deeply cherished.


He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Diane L. (Simmons) King; sons, Michael P. King and Joseph R. King, both of Delaware; stepchildren, Christine M. Wychick of Delaware and John S. Wychick of Pennsylvania; sisters, Elizabeth Sharpe (Chris) of South Carolina and Ruth Ann Otter of Maryland; 4 grandchildren, Micky, Ashley, Sam, and Miranda; 4 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.


A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Sunday, April 17, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will be held privately.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation, Lockbox #1352, P.O. Box 8500, Philadelphia, PA 19178-1352.
