Died: 12/5/2010

Mr. Michael Mike Reed, age 59, of New Castle, DE, died on Sunday, December 5, 2010, at Christiana Hospital after courageously battling ALS.

Born in Wilmington on September 19, 1951, son of the late Raymond Reed and Dorsie (Meade) Reed, Mike was a graduate of William Penn High School. He worked for Triangle Service Equipment in New Castle for 23 years doing a job he loved as a hydraulic serviceman. Mike greatly enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, spending time in the family home in the Poconos, and cheering for his favorite teams, the Eagles and the Phillies.

Above anything Mike enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his beloved family to whom he devoted his life. He was a loyal friend and was sincere and genuine to the many people who knew and loved him. Mike was best known for his easy-going, happy manner. He laughed and joked throughout his life and brought great joy and laughter to all who knew him. He will be missed but not forgotten.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Deborah (Jordan) Reed; children, Heather Reed and husband Ray West, Michelle Joswick and husband Garry, Amanda Reed, and Michael Reed II; brothers, Paul Reed, Larry Reed, Kenny Reed, and Terry Reed and wife Terry (Ralph); sisters, Joanne Axelrod and Nina Kitts and husband Timmy; grandchildren, Mikayla, Ryan, Jordan, Carlee, Nichollas, Conner, and Kobe; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial and celebration of life service will be held at Cranston Heights Fire Hall on Sunday, December 12th, at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the ALS Association (Lou Gehrigs Disease), 321 Norristown Road, Ste. 260, Ambler, PA 19002 or to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
