Michael T. Croson, age 71, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 4, 2016.

Mike was born in Washington, D.C. on January 30, 1945, the son of the late Lavern Sheckenbaugh and Phyllis (Postelwait) Croson. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Active in his community, Coach Mike as he was known to his team – the Eagles, served as a flag football coach for the Greater Newark Flag Football League for many years. He was an avid bowler and golfer and looked forward to completing his daily crossword puzzle. A devoted and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, Mike will be very dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Louis Croson and stepmother, Cynthia Sheckenbaugh. Mike is survived by his wife of 40 years, Paula M. (Obiurka) Croson; children, Debra Townley of Philadelphia, PA, David Croson (Kathy) of New Jersey, Christiana Smith (Michael) of Bear, DE and Cynthia Stant (Joseph) of Jacksonville, FL; siblings, Kathy Ely of Massachusetts, Steve Croson of Colorado and Danni Croson of New Jersey; and 9 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Monday morning, July 11, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. Interment will follow in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
