Michael V. Finochi

Mr. Michael Valentino Finochi, age 62, of Newark, DE, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011, at Christiana Hospital.

A native Delawarean, Mr. Finochi was born in Wilmington on October 11, 1948, son of the late Dominic Finochi and Philomena Lorenzo Finochi. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War and remained an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) throughout his life. Mr. Finochi attended both Delaware Technical and Community College and Spring Garden College in Philadelphia, receiving his bachelors degree in electrical engineering. He made his career as a teamster with Transport Support, Inc., where he retired.

A talented mechanic and handyman, Mr. Finochi was well known and admired for his ability to fix anything and his cheerful willingness to help family and friends with home repairs. He greatly enjoyed working outside in his yard and staying up-to-date on the latest computer technology and software. He was an avid fisherman as well. Most of all, he was a devoted and loving family man who was at his happiest with spending time with his wife, children, and granddaughter. He was also unfailingly generous, kind, and gentle when caring for his mother-in-law.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Sheila Immediato Finochi, son, Michael Anthony Finochi, daughter, Tina Marie Finochi, brother, Jimmy Finochi (Judy), sister, Ann Marie Vignola (John), granddaughter, Arianna Marie Bianca, and mother-in-law, Alice Immediato.

Visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am on Thursday, June 23, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Finochi may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church at the address above.
