  • Words cannot describe the shock and sorrow that I felt upon learning of Michelle’s death yesterday morning. The Scheib/Chatellier family has been part of our University of Delaware CHEM/BIOC family for a very long time, with Michelle, her father, and Dana having earned degrees from our Department during my tenure. Michelle served as a part-time TA for us for quite a few years, and Dana has served as our Education Specialist for the past 27 years. Michelle’s warm smile belied the fact that she was a demanding instructor with high standards. She and Dana formed a wonderful whole, which has now been torn asunder, with no warning. We share Dana’s grief, and will keep him in our prayers.

  • I first met Michele at UDel during our graduate school days about twenty years ago. Her upbeat personality and witty outlook were strong assets in all of her teaching adventures. Our friendship continued through the years and I was a fortunate person to have experienced her kindness and thoughtfulness on several occasions. I will sorely miss my friend.
My most heartfelt sympathies go to Dana and family. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. May the love of family and friends help you through this difficult time.

  • Dear Dr. B:

Thank you for your kind words. On ratemyprofessors.com, there are some unkind things written about Michelle’s efforts. You summarized her philosophy as an educator much more correctly, in my (admittedly biased) opinion.

    Dana C.

  • Dear Cathy:

Thank you for your kind words. I hope all is well with you and the boys, and I hope to see you soon.

    –Dana C.

  • Dear Carol:

Thank you for writing, and for your encouraging words. Among those in attendance at the memorial service were John and Debbie Micklos, Donna Kurrle, and Tom Guider. There may be an AA reunion in the works. I’m sure Mark will keep you in the loop. I hope to see you soon. What is Carolou up to these days?

    Dana C.

  • Dear Donna:

It was good to see you Friday night. An AA reunion would be a wonderful thing, even if we have to resort to Skype for some people. Keep in touch.

    Dana C.

  • Dear Kathy:

Thank you for your kind words. I hope all is well with you and your family.

    Dana C.

  • Dear Lynda and Charlie:

    Thank you.

  • Dear Vic:

Thank you for your kind words. It was good to see a lot of people I hadn’t seen for a while at the memorial service — John and Debbie Micklos, Bill Boyd, Tom Guider, Donna Kurrle, to name a few. Stay in touch, and feel free to visit whenever you’re in Delaware.

    Dana C.

  • Dear Regina:

Thank you for your kind words. If you would like to honor Michelle’s teaching efforts, please log on to ratemyprofessors.com and tell them what you just told me. There are some uncomplimentary statements about her there, and I believe that they are misguided.

I appreciate your taking the time to write. I hope all is well with you and yours.

  • Dear Dana – We just returned from a trip to Cape Cod and found JB’s e-mail. I was so shocked and saddened to read about Michelle. She was always such fun to be around and I always enjoyed her visits to my office. We had many laughs and really good talks. I knew I could count on Michelle’s help with students needing tutoring at the last minute. She was always so helpful.

I would have come to Michelle’s memorial had I been around. I am heartbroken for you and her family and hope God will help you cope with your loss.

    Fondly,
    Marian

  • Dr. Chatellier,

I would love to write my comments about Michelle on ratemyprofessor.com. I did found it on line, but could only find your name and not Michelle’s. Would it be listed under some other category? Please let me know how to get into her section.

    Sincerely,

    Regina

  • Dear Dana,

I hope GOD smiles down on you and yours and helps you through your grief.

    Sincerely,

  • Dear Regina:

You should be able to find it under her full name. Search under “Michelle Chatellier” and see what happens. Thank you for caring enough to do this.

  • Dear Debbie:

Thank you for your kind words. I hope all is well with you and your family.
