Born November 14, 1930

Mildred A. Noya Hernandez, known fondly as Millie, age 84, of New Castle, DE, surrounded by her family, passed away on peacefully on Friday, May 08, 2015.

Born in New York, NY on November 14, 1930, Millie was the daughter of the late Thomas Noya and Carmen Cuadra de Noya. After graduating from high school, Millie attended Hunter College in New York City where she majored in Foreign Languages. She worked as a foreign language translator in the Latin America Divisions for E.R. Squibb and Standard Brands until her marriage to Joseph Hernandez on May 30, 1953. They were childhood sweethearts who had known each other since infancy and were inseparable until her passing.

Joe and Millie relocated to Dover, DE where they began their military life together at Dover AFB that spanned 37 years. She devoted her life to caring for her family and was a full time stay at home Mom. Millie took great pride in supporting and championing her family’s many and diverse outside activities from little league baseball to ice hockey to music & ballet classes to classic antique automobiles.

A devout Roman Catholic, Millie was a longtime parishioner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bear where she served as a Sacristan for many years. Millie was an accomplished ballet dancer who studied in New York City and danced for a time with the Jose Greco troupe. She loved the arts and was also involved in community theatre at Our Lady of Fatima designing and constructing costumes for many of their productions as well as the University of Delaware and Delaware Theatre Companies. An avid gardener and the best home cook on the planet, her home gardens and culinary delights were simply exquisite!

Millie is survived by her beloved husband and life partner of 61 years, Joseph J. Hernandez; children, Richard J. Hernandez (Lisa) of New Castle, Diane L. Hernandez (Charles Botwright) of New Castle and Philip J. Hernandez (Donna) of Newark; sisters Carmen B. Rodriguez of Brentwood, NY; Anita Miranda of Roslyn, NY and her treasures grandchildren Jason R. Hernandez and Elizabeth R. Hernandez.

A visitation will be held from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Monday evening May 11, 2015 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Tuesday morning, May 12, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 345 Bear-Christiana Road, Bear, DE. Entombment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Ste. 101, Newark, DE 19713 or to Seasons Hospice of Delaware, 220 Continental Drive, Ste. 101, Newark, DE 19713.
