Mildred B. Ament

January 1, 1922 - October 21, 2016

Mildred B. Ament, age 94, of Wilmington, DE, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Beebe Hospital.

Born in Wilmington, DE on January 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Estelle (Davis) Sweeny.  Mildred was a graduate of Wilmington High School and Goldey-Beacom College.

She married the love of her life, Albert Ament, Sr., and together they raised 5 children. Mildred was a talented homemaker and owned and operated several businesses with her husband, including Al’s Sub Shop on Rt. 40. She loved music, watching the Eagles, Phillies, and Nascar, and traveling with her family. Most of all, her greatest joy were times spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Albert, Mildred was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley A. Lednum and her brother, Robert Sweeny, Jr.

She is survived by her sons, Albert J. Ament, Jr. (Susan), James A. Ament (Kathleen), and David H. Ament (Sandy); daughter, Robin Schlotterback (William); 12 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren

The Ament family would like to thank Mildred’s dedicated caregivers, Deborah Matthews and Pat Kerrigan.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Saturday morning, October 29, 2016, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 am. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mildred’s memory may be made to Sojourners’ Place, 2901 Northeast Blvd., Wilmington, DE 19802 or to Alfred I DuPont Hospital for Children, 1600 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.
