His career as an educator, mentor, and principal spanned 30 years before his retirement from the Christina School District. A longtime member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, he also gave freely of his time in assisting with confirmation classes, as well as acolyte training. He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn Geisler Markley; sons, John Markley (Robyn) of Newark, DE; and Brett Markley of Newark, DE; brother, Thomas Markley (Susan) of Wayne, PA; sister, Judy Rhodes of Tomball, TX; grandchildren, Jonathan Markley, Madison Markley, Megan Markley, and James Markley; and his granddog Buddy. The family would like to thank the staff of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and the Millcroft Nursing Home for their kindness and compassion. Visitation will be held from 7 pm to 9 pm on Friday, April 16, 2010, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 701 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE 19713. A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church at the address above.
