Moneca J. Leighton Smith
Mrs. Moneca J. Leighton Smith, age 31, of Andrews AFB, MD, formerly of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.
Moneca was born in Norfolk, VA, on August 5, 1981. In her youth, she greatly enjoyed roller skating and spending her summers in Minnesota with her grandfather. She also delighted in camping at Lake George, CO, at the Happy Meadow Camp Ground, an experience she joyfully continued to share with her beloved husband, MAJ Harvey C. Trey Smith III, USA, after their marriage on May 18, 2004.
As a devoted military wife, Moneca proudly and bravely supported her husband through two dangerous overseas war zone deployments, often providing gentle support and counsel to other young Army wives. Despite poor health, she volunteered extensively with the Red Cross and was a steadfast, capable friend to anyone in need. She possessed very strong moral convictions throughout her life and was unafraid to defend her beliefs both passionately and eloquently when necessary.
Moneca was a devoted wife, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, and friend, who loved her family, her many friends, and her pets unconditionally. She will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives she touched with her warmth, kindness, and compassion.
In addition to her husband, Moneca is survived by her mother, Kathleen C. Bosch Leighton of Colorado Springs, CO; father, Arnold Leighton, Jr. of Layton, UT; brother, Scott Danny Bosch of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Sandra-Lee T. Leighton of Colorado Springs, CO; grandfather, John E. Bosch of Willmar, MN; grandmother, Amy Bosch of Willmar, MN; uncles, Scott T. Bosch and J. Brad Bosch; mother- and father-in-law, Alice A. Smith and Harvey C. Smith, Jr. of Odessa, DE; brother-in-law, Matthew C. Smith and his wife Sandra of Middletown, DE; nieces, Katelyn A. Smith and Allison E. Smith; nephew, Craig M. Smith; her pet Beagles, Bradley, Max, and Gabriel; and her Pionus Parrot, Alexander.
A funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720, where visitation will begin at 1 pm. Interment will be held privately.
