Nellie F. Miller
Mrs. Nellie Frederick Miller, age 96, formerly of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011.
A native Delawarean, Mrs. Miller was born in Marshallton on March 25, 1915, daughter of the Walter Frederick and Amanda Virginia Burkholder Frederick. Following her parents deaths from the Spanish Flu, she was given a loving home by her foster parents, the late Lula Catherine Fately and Thomas Henry Fately.
During World War II, Mrs. Miller assisted with the war effort in the role of a real-life Rosie the Riveter working for Boeing Aircraft in California. Locally, she received her degree from Goldey-Beacom College and went on to a career in bookkeeping with the former New Castle County School District, where she retired in 1980.
Active in her community, Mrs. Miller was a member of numerous social and community organizations, including the Pleasant Hill Bowling Club in Stanton. She was a devout Christian and longtime member of Newark United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, noted community leader, Mason, and Rotarian, Albert Joseph Miller, in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Catherine Dacey, son-in-law, Peter A. Dacey, and grandchildren, Amanda Dacey, Grace Dacey, Jacob Dacey, and Julia Dacey, all of Aberdeen, MD.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
