Norma D. Katurakes

November 17, 1929 - March 17, 2016

Loving mother and grandmother, devoted wife of 67 years to her dear husband “Jimmy” and faithful servant to her church, Norma D. Katurakes , age 86, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2016, surrounded by her family and friends.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on November 17, 1929, Norma was a daughter of the late Vincent Ianni, Sr. and Margaret (DeNest) Brank. Her passions were her family, the beach, painting, bowling, swimming, crafts, cooking, bird-watching, gardening, and volunteering. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Sodality, the Clarence Fraim Senior Center, and the Garden Club. She and her husband loved volunteering together at St. Anthony’s Festival, the Emmanuel Dining Room, and Our Lady of Fatima Church. In her earlier years, she was a Girl Scout Leader and costume designer for OLF musical productions.

In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her brother, Vincent Ianni, Jr.; and sister, Florence Venuto.

She is survived by her loving husband, James L. Katurakes; daughters, Lisa U. Yourison (Thomas) of Mullica Hill, NJ, and Nora C. Katurakes of Newark, DE; sons, James L. Katurakes III of Orlando, FL, and Mark A. Katurakes (Victoria) of Harbeson, DE; grandchildren, James Nathaniel Katurakes, Lauren Katurakes, Kevin Yourison (Lindsey), and Thomas Yourison, Jr. (Michelle); and great grandchildren, John Yourison and Sarah Yourison.

She was “the love of his life”, our dear sweet mother, and friend to all. She will be missed.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, at the address listed above.

  • Dear Norma was the princess I aspired to be when I was a child. She was my baby sitter, my trick or treat guardian, my ice skating teacher, and my dearest cousin. Serving as flower girl for her and Jimmy’s wedding was the answer to my little girl dreams.
