Norma J. Shaw

Born June 9, 1920

Norma J. Shaw, age 95, of Milford, DE and formerly of Newark and Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2016.

Born in Osceola Mills, PA on June 9, 1920, Norma was a daughter of the late T. Raymond and Julia (Vozey) Sankey. In addition to raising her family, she made her career as bookkeeper for the former Delaware Hospital and later for the private practice of Dr. Pierre LeRoy.

Active in local politics, Norma served as the vice chair of the Republican Party of Clearfield County, PA from 1959 until 1962. Additionally after moving to Delaware, she served as a senior intern for the late Senator William V. Roth, Jr. Norma gave of her time by serving as a past officer with the AARP Newark, DE chapter and as a 25 year volunteer with the Blood Bank of Delmarva. She was a longtime member of the Newark Senior Center where she made many friends. Above all else, Norma will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, sister and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Grace Garvey and George Sankey. She is survived by her children, Norma J. Peck (Bernard) of Astaula, FL, Barbara L. Ammeron (Larry) of Milton, DE and Thomas S. Shaw, Jr. (Sandy) of The Peninsula, DE; brother, Raymond Sankey (Betty) of Morrisdale, PA; sister, Louise Copenhaver of Altoona, PA; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday afternoon, April 29, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home of Wilmington Manor, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:30 pm until 1 pm. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Norma’s memory may be made to the Blood Bank of Delmarva, 100 Hygeia Drive, Newark, DE 19713.
