Mr. Orazzio P. DeBenedictis (Ozzie), age 57, of Delaware City, DE, passed away peacefully, unexpectedly in his sleep on Sunday, November 14, 2010.


Born in Camden, NJ, on November 21, 1952, son of the late Frank DeBenedictis and Elizabeth Peterson Salazar, Ozzie served his country proudly in the Delaware Air National Guard as a Repair and Reclamation Aircraft Fuel System Mechanic before retiring on medical disability. He was described by his co-workers as always having fun and was admired for being nonjudgmental about everyone with whom he came in contact. Currently, he was employed as an Assistant Range Master for the Ommelanden Hunter Safety Range and had also worked part-time for Dicks Sporting Goods.


Ozzie was past president of the Delaware Jaycees, a hunter education instructor, and a social member of the Delaware City Fire Company. He greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing and sharing outdoor adventures with his son, Paul.


He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, April. He was the proud and loving father of Paul and Anthony (Cindy). He is also survived by his grandson, Maxwell; granddaughters, Tori and Jordan; in-laws, Max and Rose Beheler; stepmother, Sara; brother, Harry (Carol); sisters, Viola Laphan, Liz Madal, Paula, and Loretta (Mike); a host of nieces and nephews; brother- and sister-in-law, Chris and Kathi Kearns, along with many other loved friends and extended family members.


Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, November 19, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 306 Clinton Street, Delaware City, where a second visitation will begin at 9 am. Interment will be in Old Delaware City Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware Community Foundation Steven W. Beheler Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1636, Wilmington, DE 19899; or to the Delaware City Fire Company, P.O. Box 251, Delaware City, DE 19706.
