Otha Clark âButchâ Pierce
Mr. Otha Clark Pierce, known fondly as Butch, age 67, of Newark, DE, died on Monday, January 10, 2011, at his home.
Born in Parkersburg, WV, on September 25, 1943, Mr. Pierce was a son of the late Otha Lewis Pierce and Frances Pierce. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. In civilian life, he made his career as a railroad police officer with the former B & O Railroad (now CSX), where he retired. His professional affiliations included the Fraternal Order of Police.
A gifted marksman, he competed in many pistol shooting tournaments throughout his life and was a longtime member of the Delaware State Pistol Club. He also enjoyed bowling with friends.
Mr. Pierce was a devout Christian and an active member of the Community of Christ Church for many years.
His beloved wife of 33 years, Sarah Kathryn Sally Pierce, died in 2001. He is survived by his sons, Daniel L. D.L. Pierce of Newark, DE, Scott E. Pierce of Hagerstown, MD, and Jared W. Pierce of Newark, DE; brothers, Steven Pierce (Jan) and Craig Pierce (Linda) of Washington, WV; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Sarah Pierce.
A funeral service will be held at 7 pm on Tuesday, January 18th, at the Community of Christ Church, 1205 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE, where visitation will begin at 5 pm. A committal service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, January 19th, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
