Patricia Jane Eastburn Tucker
Mrs. Patricia Jane Eastburn Tucker, age 64, of New Castle, DE, received her angel wings, with her family by her side, on Monday, November 22, 2010, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, after a long battle against liver disease.
Pat was born in Wilmington on September 3, 1946, the oldest daughter of the late Joseph B. Eastburn and Virginia L. Goldner Eastburn. She grew up in New Castle County with her five siblings and attended John Dickinson High School. She was well known for her great love of people and her sparkling personality. A lover of animals too, it was not unusual for Pat to bring home stray animals and provide them with a loving home. During the holidays, Pat would also invite those without families to join her family holiday dinner.
Pat was an avid reader whose favorite authors were James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell. She also enjoyed collecting Santa Claus, angel, and lighthouse figurines, doing crossword puzzles, and being entertained by SpongeBob. She was an eternal optimist and always found the positive in every situation and in every person.
Pat is survived by the love of her life and husband of 13 years, Gerald J. Tucker; her children and their spouses, Patricia Basham (Tim) of Claypool Hill, VA, Michael Lucas of Hampton, VA, Lisa Rex (Jim) of Newark, DE, Carrie Rutt (Tom) of Middletown, DE, and Jennifer Thwaites (Ed) of Dover, DE; siblings, Roxanne Axelson (Elmer) of Landenberg, PA, Phillip Eastburn (Barbara) of Lake Stockholm, NJ, Anne Hamer (Jim) of Naples, FL, and Gerald Eastburn (Phyllis) of Waxhaw, NC; 18 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Angel, and cat, Muffy. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her son, William Lucas, in January 2009, and her brother, Joseph Eastburn, in June 2002.
A celebration of Pats life will be held at 11 am on Monday, November 29, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where visitation will begin at 10 am. A committal service will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
The family would like to thank the phenomenal team of nurses, physicians, and respiratory therapists in the MICU at HUP for their skilled and gentle caregiving, reassuring bedside manner, and expertise in directing Pats care. We will be forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Barker Transplant House at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. Checks should be made payable to Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania and mailed to University of Pennsylvania, Penn Medicine, 3535 Market Street, Ste. 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104 (215/898-0578). Please note for Baker Transplant House on the memo line.
Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation. For they are us, our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life. Albert Einstein
