Patricia Ruth (Donnelly) Anderson

Born November 2, 1924

Patricia Ruth (Donnelly) Anderson, age 90, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 11, 2015.

Patricia was born in Atlantic City, NJ on November 2, 1924, and was the daughter of the late James F. Donnelly and Ruth (Mills) Donnelly. In addition to caring for her family, she worked as a stenographer with the Delaware Beverage Company, retiring in 1977 after many years of dedicated service.

Patricia was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church in New Castle. She gave of her time and talents as a volunteer with the Blood Bank of Delmarva. An avid Philadelphia Phillies fan, she looked forward to cheering on her favorite team each season. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, completing crossword puzzles and league bowling in her leisure time. Patricia loved the beach and relished visiting there. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Patricia adored family gatherings and especially looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Miller “Yogi” Anderson. She is survived by her children, William L. Anderson, Sr. (Judith) of Newark, Susan E. Tobin (James) of St. Georges and Steven R. Anderson (Patricia) of Newark; brother, Charles Kratz (Jane) of Mays Landing, NJ; grandchildren, Steven R. Anderson, Jr. (Laura), Mandie L. Johnson (Steve), Kelly M. Geldof (Justin), Kristine M. Anderson, Jamie M. Tobin (Kim) and William L. Anderson, Jr.; and 7 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Churchman Village for the exceptional care they provided to Patricia.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday afternoon, May 15, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Ste. 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

  • Pat will always be remembered as a loving sister and aunt to our daughters Linda and Donna. She was completely devoted to her family as a wonderful mother and grandmother. Pat always loved children and found special joy in being with them. Her sense of humor and kindness to others are special traits we will not forget. She will be deeply missed by our family.
