Born:
Died: 3/12/2010

Paul J. Miller, Sr., age 77, of New Castle, DE, died on Friday, March 12, 2010, at his home after a short illness. A native Delawarean, Paul was born in Wilmington on February 8, 1933, son of the late Raymond E. Miller and Elizabeth J. Chance Miller. He made his career as a professional salesman, retiring from Bayless Office Equipment after 20 years of service. From an early age, Paul made a deeply personal commitment to share his life and gifts with everyone (friend and stranger alike) and to embody always the spirit of true Christian fellowship. For over 10 years, he was a part of the Family Friends program sponsored by Christiana Hospital, in which he provided care, support, and counseling for an at-risk local family. He was a leading member of the Wilmington District Committee on Ministry, a 45-year member of the Wilmington Kiwanis Club, and an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where he sang in the church choir for many years. A gifted vocalist, he also directed the choir at the Howard Weston Senior Center and was part of a select senior choir that gave concerts for local nursing home residents. During his sons youth, Paul volunteered as a coach with Suburban Little League in New Castle and assisted with Boy Scout Troop No. 71 at Asbury U.M. Church. In his leisure hours, he greatly enjoyed bowling, golfing, camping with his sons and nephews, and cheering for his favorite teams, the Phillies and the Eagles. Most of all, Paul will be remembered as a devoted family man, who delighted especially in spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He is survived by his devoted wife, Georgianna Hedrick Miller; sons, Paul J. Miller, Jr. (Rae-Ann) of Alexandria, VA; David J. Miller of New Castle; and Robert J. Miller (fiance, Donna Scroger) of Newark; brother, Ray E. Miller, Jr. (Mildred) of Ross, OH; sister, Doris E. Singleton (Bill) of Wilmington; and grandchildren, Matthew Miller, Kyle Miller, Brett Miller, Kimmi Scroger and Kelli Scroger. A visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 E. Basin Road, New Castle, DE, 19720. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
