Pauline N. (Ellicks) Hoffman

Born April 26, 1927

Pauline N. (Ellicks) Hoffman, age 90, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, May 15, 2017.

Pauline was born in All Saints Hospital in Morristown, NJ on April 26, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Pauline (Brogley) Ellicks. Raised in rural Chatham, NJ, she was one of ten children.

She met her husband, Ray Hoffman, while working at Solberg Airport in New Jersey. The couple was married in 1951 in Whitehouse, NJ. Together, Ray and Pauline built their family home, and in 1954 welcomed their twin daughters, Mary and Elaine. They relocated to Delaware in 1971 when Ray accepted a position at the New Castle County Airport.

In addition to caring for her family, Pauline had a number of career pursuits including working as a bookkeeper and tax collector.

A woman of strong faith, she and Ray joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints in 1969. Pauline adored church hymns and could oftentimes be heard singing joyfully out loud. Pauline had many church callings, her favorites included serving as the Family History Center Specialist and Relief Society counselor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond C. Hoffman; and a grandson, Nick Haugh; and 8 siblings. Pauline is survived by her daughters, Elaine Milner and Mary Haugh; brother, William Ellicks; 3 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10 am on Monday morning, May 22, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 500 W. Chestnut Hill Rd., Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pauline’s memory may be made to the Newark 2nd Ward, c/o Bishop Edward M. Kuschel, 360 MacDonald Close, Bear, DE 19701.

  • In searching for names from my family’s past I just came across this (July 7, 2019)…..I’m not sure if this will post at this late stage, but Mary and Elaine, I offer my sympathy. Your mom and dad, Raymond. were very good friends of my parents, John E. and Colleen VanArsdale Wene….. your dad & my dad had an airplane……I believe my mom & dad were in your parents’ wedding. Again, accept my sympathies.
