Ramon B. Armstrong, Sr.
Mr. Ramon B. Armstrong, Sr., known fondly as Ray, age 74, of Delaware City, DE, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at home surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A native Delawarean, Ray was born in Port Penn on August 13, 1938, son of the late Edward Armstrong and Olive Patton Armstrong. He would go on to accept a position with the State of Delaware, first as a State Park Superintendent, and later as a Game Warden. Even following his retirement he continued to work, piloting a boat to and from Fort Delaware and continuing to maintain his farm.
Active in his community, Ray was a Life Member of the Delaware City Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years and mother of his children, Kathryn J. Kersey Armstrong. He is survived by his wife, Catherine J. Kitty Walling Armstrong; children, Kim Blaasch (David) of Middletown, Tammy Poppe (Wally) of Delaware City, and Ramon B. Armstrong, Jr. (Ericka) of Delaware City; brother, David Armstrong (Janet) of Middletown; sister, Patricia Morris (John) of Odessa; grandchildren, Daniel and Mathew Blaasch, Katie and Will Poppe, Brooke Armstrong, and Max Robichaud; nieces and nephews; and a family of friends too numerous to mention.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Pamela Simpson and staff of Regional Hematology and Oncology; the staff of the Sixth Floor ACE Unit of Christiana Hospital; and the staff of Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, February 11th, at Delaware City Fire Company Memorial Hall, 815 Fifth Street, Delaware City, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Delaware City Cemetery on Clinton Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of Ray to Fort Delaware State Park, P.O. Box 170, Delaware City, DE 19706.
