Randolph Preston Cocke, Jr.
Mr. Randolph Preston Cocke, Jr., age 86, of Newark, DE, died on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Christiana Hospital.
A native Virginian, Preston was born in Williamsburg on June 24, 1924, son of the late Randolph Preston Cocke, Sr. and Christine McRae Cocke. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. Preston was a 1945 graduate of Virginia Tech and would later receive his masters degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University. He made his career with the DuPont Company, working as an electrical engineer for over 30 years until his retirement from the former Louviers site.
Active in his community, Preston was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader in earlier years. A devout Christian, he was a longtime member of Love of Christ Church and was the co-founder and past secretary/treasurer of the Scientific and Biblical Creationist Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Vera M. Ross Cocke; children, Randolph P. Carrion (Rn) of Anahuac, TX, William W. Cocke (Tanarola) of Newark, and Elizabeth C. Cooke of Hockessin; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Duncan Cocke, Curtis Whitehead, and Thomas Cocke.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 28th, at Love of Christ Church, 2157 Bear Corbitt Road, Bear, 19701, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
