Raymond G. Morris

Born August 20, 1940

Raymond G. Morris, age 75, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 8, 2016.

A native Delawarean, Raymond was born in Wilmington on August 20, 1940, and was the son of the late Raymond V. and Agnes M. (Ringland) Morris. He graduated from Brown Vocational High School in 1959. As a young man, he proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. An electrician by trade, Raymond made his career with DuPont at the company’s Chambers Works site for 35 years. After retiring, he accepted a maintenance position with the Delaware State Hospital where he dedicated 17 years of service.

He enjoyed working on cars and trucks in his spare time and his garage was oftentimes filled with his latest projects. If Raymond wasn’t in his garage, he could be found tinkering in his shed or capturing the perfect family photo. He loved visiting the beach and eating out. Raymond adored animals, especially his 3 faithful feline companions. A devoted and loving father and grandfather, he was happiest in the company of his beloved family and will be remembered as the greatest father ever by his children.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann Beverly (Windish) Morris; children, Karen Skreenock (Paul) of Clayton, DE and Raymond S. Morris (Jennifer) of New Castle, DE; brother, Paul Morris of Beauford, SC; and grandchildren, Heather Valenti and Amy and Tommy Skreenock.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday afternoon, February 12, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Raymond’s memory may be made to Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804.

  • To my Dad, the most hardworking, funny, hard headed and stubborn man I know, you will be missed every day until I see you again. I can’t say I love you enough but I know you know that. Don’t worry about Mom, you know we will take exceptional care of her. Thanks for my wonderful life and all of the great memories you have given me. Dad, you did a remarkable job taking care of us. I am forever greatful. I love you, see you later.

  • I’m deeply saddened at the loss of the man I always thought of as my second father. May the Lord bless and comfort your family through this time of grief. Our deepest sympathies to you all.
    Love,
    Debbie

  • Dear Bev,
This morning, I was so sorry to hear of Ray’s passing. I truly enjoyed getting to know the both of you when Ray was out on leave…You are in my thoughts and prayers..

  • Here is a man who truly answered the call of Jesus. When Jesus said “take care of the poor”,Ray answered. Ray took care of us when we had no heat. He always had a big smile for us and always told us not to worry. We know that Ray’s Homecoming will be the best. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of the family. Ray now shares a life at table with His Jesus.

  • I was deeply saddened to hear of Raymond’s passing this morning. Ray and I enjoyed our discussions about PA and more specifically Willow Grove Air Force Base where we both had fond memories. Whenever I saw him at DPC he always had a kind word and left you with a reason to smile. He will be sorely missed…may God keep his family and provide a source of strength during these difficult hours.

    He will be sorely missed.

  • We were very sorry to learn about Ray’s passing. We worked out with him at PMRI for a long time, and he was always so nice to everyone. He went to school with my cousin, Chris McDermott, and he often shared about their friendship. It was so good to hear those stories from the past. Ray and his family are in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Marie McDermott O’Connor and Bob O’Connor

  • So sorry to hear of Ray’s passing. I remember him fondly as a man with strong opinions and never at a loss for words. Although we were related by marriage I most often saw Ray at work at the Chambers Works. When Ray walked into the office I knew I was ready for a rapid fire update on the state of things: work, family, politics, etc. God speed to you Ray.
