Raymond J. Filasky, Sr.

Born May 7, 1927

Raymond J. Filasky, Sr., age 90, of Galena, MD, and formerly of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully at home, while surrounded by his family, on Saturday, May 27, 2017.

Born on Long Island in New Hyde Park, NY, on May 7, 1927, Raymond was the son of the late John H. and Rose (Vollkommer) Filasky. With his wife Ann at his side, he farmed for many years then owned and operated Filasky’s Ag Service until he retired. Together the couple raised four children on their farm in Middletown, and shared 67 years of marriage.

An exceptional handyman, Raymond took great pride in the numerous renovations and improvements he made to his family’s farmhouse over the years. He was a talented gardener, and especially loved caring for his beautiful roses. After moving to Galena, Raymond spent many happy hours on the Sassafras River boating and fishing. Above all else, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many who will be very dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Ann (Healy) Filasky; and siblings, Jack, Barbara, Fred, and Doris. Raymond is survived by his children, Raymond Filasky (Eileen) of Mechanicsville, VA, John Filasky (Cindi) of Middletown, Roseanne LeRoy of Fair Hill, MD, and Peggy Filasky of Redding, CA; sisters, Rosemary (Delores) Somelofski of Tremperskill, NY and June Burket of Fairport, NY; 12 grandchildren, Karen, Jason, Julia, Johnny, Meg, Timothy, Matt, Carmen, Christopher, Jake, Elizabeth, and Makayla; and 6 great grandchildren, Miranda, Georgia, Frank, Declan, Teagan, and Juniper.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Thursday morning, June 1, 2017 at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 371 E. Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Old Bohemia Cemetery, Warwick, MD.

11 Condolences for Raymond J. Filasky, Sr.

  • He will be greatly missed although we haven’t visited in some time I have very fond memories of the farm and as a kid the house was like a big mansion and we ran every inch of it. Prayers are with you

  • Rest peacefully Uncle Ray. You and Aunt Ann were great to me in the summers when I’d come to Middletown as a kid. I’m sure that God will hold you in the palm of his hand. God bless you-Sonny

  • My deepest sympathy to all the family on the loss of your loved one.

  • Our condolences to you and your family at this sad time. (Caitlins’ Aunt Eileen)

  • My respects to this man and his family. Mr. Filasky was my first boss…growing potatoes on the Levels, west of Middletown, circa 1961. He was one who taught me to work hard and persevere.

  • We are so sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.

  • He will always be in our hearts and memories.

  • To Ray (Eileen), John (Cindi), Roseanne, and Peg, Meg, Jason, Jake, and all grandchildren & great grandchildren, and to Aunt June and Aunt Delores, very sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man. He and Gram were a great example of love, hard work, family,…the list could go on. He will always be missed and remembered. My love and prayers to all of you.

  • My sympathy to the entire Filasky family. We’re sorry we were unable to make the services. The friendships expressed between our families is something we have all cherished for many years.

  • John, Hell or high water: the truck had to be ready for Mr. Filasky to make his deliveries. He was a disciplined man always with his lunch box ready to go. As my father wanted me to have a farm, I know your dad wanted you to have a farm too. The older generation cannot be replaced. He is probably going skating on the pond on the island in heaven. He will greatly be missed.

  • My sincere condolences to the Filasky family.
