Rhonda Lee Stapleford

Rhonda Lee Stapleford

Rhonda Lee Stapleford, age 57, of St. Georges, DE, passed away peacefully at home, while surrounded by her family, on Friday, November 18, 2016.

Rhonda was born in Wilmington, DE on February 1, 1959 and was the daughter of David and Hope (Minor) Woods. She graduated from Newark High School in 1977 and then moved to Alexandria, VA, where she lived while working in Washington D.C. as a legal secretary until 1995. Rhonda then returned to Delaware and accepted a position with the Delaware Republican Party until she was hired as an office manager in the State of Delaware’s Medicaid Unit. She retired in 1999 to persue her passions – figure skating, boating and offshore fishing.

An avid fisherwoman, Rhonda was named Top Lady Angler twice. She adored animals, especially her “spiritual” feline companion, Stripey. Rhonda was happiest in the company of her family and friends and will be very dearly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Richard B. Stapleford; step daughter, Susanne Sterling (Michael); sister, Donna Cagle (Alan); uncle, Harvey Woods, Jr.; cousins, Chip Woods and Susan Woods; and grandchildren, Katie, Cole and Rebecca.

A gathering for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday morning, November 23, 2016 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will be held at 11 am. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A St., Wilmington, DE 19801 or to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

Reading the obituary for Rhonda makes us sorry that we missed out on meeting such an interesting human being. Being the better half of Richard only tells us how beautiful a person Rhonda was. Those we love can never be more than a thought away . . . for as long as there’s a memory, they live in our hearts to stay. Our thoughts are with you all.

Rhonda was a beautiful and vibrant woman who welcomed our family into hers when we met them years ago at the marina. She was a wonderful fishing buddy and friend from the start. She was a caring person and her and Rich made a great couple. She was like family and we will miss her and think of her when we look out at the ocean.

So very sorry for your loss – know that our Creator promises that we will be reunited with our loved ones asleep in death in the near future. John 11:11,13,14 When you read on in that chapter, you see a demonstration of Jesus resurrecting this man from death. Showing on a small scale what He will do on a grand scale for all mankind in the near future. This is just one recorded act of this kind. Revelation 21:3,4 is a promise and a sure hope. No more sickness, pain, or death. My prayers for “strength beyond what is normal” are with you and your family.

My sincere condolences to the Stapleford family. May your memories bring you comfort in the days and weeks ahead and have faith in God’s promise of seeing Rhonda again by means of a resurrection. He wants you to be there to embrace her again. Imagine planning together for an everlasting future, never again to say good-bye! (John 5:28, 29)

To My Dearest Rhonda…. and Richard…

11:11 – – As the tears flow down my face, after finding out that you have passed away…
It is hard to find the words to tell you, how truly ans sincerely sorry I am that you… my most lovely best friend are gone… and the 17 years that I knew you just flew by, thinking yet we still had a lifetime together…. Oh, my beautiful friend…….. I cannot grasp that you are not here with your Richard, and that we are not able to talk on the phone for hours to each other, anymore….
I have no lackadaisical attitude in the hopes that these my thoughts and words some how reach the great beyond… I want to tell you I miss you my dearest friend. I truly love you…. I’ll always love you my beautiful friend. I can still hear your cheerful voice telling me about your skating lessons, and all your fishing stories and the countless stories about Diesel & LilyBlue… who are now with you. I still hear your laughter… and remember when you had your sun-room built, the memory tree, the stories about your blooming flower trees in your yard in spring… so much more…………..
I will “forever cherish” the most amazing beautifully crochet sage green blanket you made me and sent to us [me & husband] in California.
My tears still flow as I write this, as I will miss you forever and ever…. I am keeping faith in the great beyond, so that we are able to hug each other and I can tell you I love you once more….when we meet again….

    Pals Forever… Monica
