Richard A. Scarlott

Mr. Richard A. Scarlott, age 85, of Wilmington, DE, died on Friday, July 9, 2010, at the Masonic Home of Delaware.

Born in Canton, OH, on October 17, 1924, Mr. Scarlott was the son of the late Robert Scarlott and Grace Riley Scarlott. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II and, in his civilian career, was employed as the store manager of the former Wilmington Dry Goods from 1961 until his retirement in 1987.

Mr. Scarlott was a devout Christian and a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he was involved in many church committees and also completed the Disciple I class. Active also in the Masonic order, he was a member and Past Master of Lafayette Lodge #14 AF & AM in Wilmington; a Past Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Delaware; a member of the Delaware Consistory, where he served as Secretary for 12 years and achieved 33rd Degree status; and a member of many other Masonic bodies. He was also a member of the veterans group, the Tin Can Sailors Association.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Scarlott was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bonita R. Bonnie Maple Scarlott, in 2006, and by siblings, William A. Scarlott, James A. Scarlott, Robert R. Scarlott, and Vera M. Scarlott. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy L. Price and husband, Thom, of Wilmington; sisters-in-law, Albertine S. Scarlott of Canton, OH, and Ruth Maple of Phoenix, AZ; nieces, Mackie C. Olivier and husband, Walter, and Christine L. Maple; and nephews, William R. Scarlott and Curtis L. Maple and wife, Linda.

A Celebration of Life for Richard Scarlott will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 16, 2010, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Masonic Home of Delaware, 4800 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE 19807 or to Aldersgate United Methodist Church at the address above.
