Richard C. Hill, Sr.

Richard C. Hill, Sr., age 98, of Townsend, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Monday, May 4, 2015.

Born in Pocomoke City, MD on April 8, 1917, Mr. Hill was a son of the late Roy W. Hill and Ruth (Payne) Hill. He worked as a farmer for many years and would later accept a position with Amtrak, where he dedicated 39 years of service.

Mr. Hill was a longtime member of St. John’s Lodge No 2 A.F. & A.M. in New Castle. An avid gardener, he enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables. In his leisure time, Mr. Hill liked traveling and reading. He was happiest in the company of his beloved family whom he adored.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys (Evans) Hill and a son, Richard Hill, Jr. He is survived by his children, Barbara Andreavich of New Castle, Ralph Hill (Barbara) of New Castle, James Hill of Townsend and Mary Shores of Townsend; brother, George Hill of Crisfield, MD; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday afternoon, May 7, 2015, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
