Richard A. “Rick” Edelman

Richard A. “Rick” Edelman

November 5, 1947-July 18, 2016

Richard A. Edelman, fondly known as Rick, age 68, of Milton, DE passed away after a valiant battle against cancer on Monday, July 18, 2016.

Born in Los Angeles, California on November 5, 1947 he was a son of the late Jack Leo Edelman of Palm Desert, California and the late Dorothy Mohr (Edelman) Lipman of Seattle, Washington. Rick graduated from Los Angeles High School, where he ran long distance track/cross country, graduating in 1965. He then attended University of California, Berkeley, graduating in the class of 1970. Rick later obtained his MBA from Pepperdine in Malibu, CA. He spent many years in the field of pharmaceutical and medical device marketing. Rick later launched his independent company, Acacia Strategy, LLC, that helped guide small-sized to Fortune 500 companies in successfully completing their strategic planning.

Rick loved being active, especially, when it came to his favorite sports such as running, fencing, and golfing. In his leisure time, Rick enjoyed visiting the beach, cooking, watching classic movies and reading. He looked forward to retiring and enjoying his new home and community at the Delaware beach with his wife, Cynthia S. Lowder. Rick met Cindy in September 2003 at a new medical device launch in Boston, MA and after many months of long distance dating (he in CA and she in MD) he relocated to Maryland where they shared each others interests. He loved the historic Maryland/Pennsylvania/Delaware/Virginia landmarks, as he often said, “Anything old in California is from the 1940’s.” The couple married in October 2012, residing in Havre de Grace, MD. They just recently relocated to the Delaware beach where they were hoping for many happy years yet to come. Rick will be dearly missed, they were each other’s soul mates.

Rick is survived by his wife, Cynthia S. Doss Lowder of Milton; children, Alex Edelman (Jordan Hay) of Seattle, WA and David Edelman of Westport, CT; stepsons, Matthew Lowder (Becky Streaker Lowder) of Perryville, MD, Christopher Lowder (Micaela Piccolo) of Seoul, S. Korea, Taylor Lowder of Chandler, AZ; brother, Marshall Edelman (Betty-Gene) of Southampton, NJ; sister, Jan (Edelman) Kritzer of Seattle, WA; father and mother-in-law, Norman W. and Shirley B. Doss of Charlestown, MD; grandchildren, Angus and Ursula Edelman, and Samuel Lowder; and many other special in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Friends and guests are invited to a memorial luncheon following the service at the Embassy Suites, 654 South College Avenue, Newark.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

I am glad we were able to talk when we did. I also was happy to watch tombstone with you that day. I am happy for the time we spent in each other’s company, and sad for the time we missed.
You brought your California smooth to sad little Cecil county for the love of a woman, and we were all the better for it. Especially three young boys needing guidance you will be missed.

    Cindy,
I am so sorry to learn of Rick’s passing. I was just thinking of the two of you last week and was going to call and see how he was doing, but I was afraid to ask. I’m sorry I never got to meet him. I know this is a difficult time for you. I will try to make the funeral this week, but I may be leaving town for a relative who is in hospice. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

    Cin & family,
I was so hoping and praying that Rick would beat this terrible disease. He was such a fighter! I know the reason he fought so hard to stay on this earth, was so that he could be with you …the love of his life! How many times did I hear him call you that….every time I saw him. He loved you with his entire being! You, the boys and your family brought so much joy to his life. He was always saying how much he loved you all. I’m so sorry he had to leave you, that his time with you was so short. Take comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain and will always be watching over you until you meet again on the other side. You were his angel on earth and now he is your angel in heaven.
Our Love to You, your boys, and your family,
    Denise & Mark

    Cindy,
It’s very hard to let a loved one go. Rick is in a better place now. I enjoyed spending time with him talking. We shared the same passion for the outdoors! When I step outside of my house, I look over in hopes he will be sitting on the porch so Addie and I could go over and sit with him. Again so sorry for Rick’s passing.

    Dear Cindy and family,

Such sad news, we extend our deepest sympathy to you and the family. Rick was always such a real delightful person, always upbeat even during his illness when we saw him last. We were always hoping that the treatments would restore his health.Last time I talked to him we were discussing traveling cross country in the Airstream something you and Rick were hoping to do also. All the Airstream magazines and travel books you gave us will be a lasting warm reminder of Rick.

Love to you and the family,

    Ulrich and Berit Boegli

    Dear Cindy and family,

Rick was very good friend who I had the privilege of first meeting back in 1980. I will always remember the creative, clever, fun-loving guy that he was. He had a constant twinkle in his eye and I have many, many fond memories of the laughs and good times that we had together. My sincere condolences to you and your entire family as we all mourn his untimely passing.
