Riley C. Watson

Died: 4/6/2010

On April 6, 2010, a New Castle native, Riley Cornelius Watson Sr., left the physical world to join his wife Ellen Marie Watson. While he lived in West Virginia and then Florida for some years he loved New Castle and always remained a dedicated Phillies Phan. Riley was a strong man who worked in the construction industry as a carpenter and a house painter. Although he never brought home a huge paycheck, he did very well with what he made. His coupon and rebating skills were legendary. He left a legacy of thrift and self sufficiency for his family. Riley was one of the Senior Senators who relaxed on the wharf in Battery Park, and he enjoyed playing cards with his many friends at the Howard Weston Senior Center. Rileys pool skills were phenomenal. He won first prize in a pool tournament while battling cancer, a feat that amazed his doctor. Riley was preceded in death by his wife Ellen, his son Riley Watson Jr., two sisters and five brothers. He leaves behind two brothers, three daughters, one son, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Rileys ashes will be buried with those of his beloved wife in a family plot in West Virginia in a private ceremony. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11 am at the Calvary Presbyterian Church on the corner of Boxwood Road and Maryland Avenue in Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Howard Weston Senior Center, 1 Bassett Ave., New Castle, DE 19720. To sign guest book, visit SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORY 302-328-2213
